We are excited to launch the first-ever Berrien Springs Walking Challenge June 16 – September 16, 2025! This is a great way to discover and explore the natural beauty of our Village this summer.

The Village of Berrien Springs is accepting bids from qualified landscape design and maintenance firms for landscaping 13-14 downtown flower beds, including both planting and first-year maintenance. Bids should be based on existing plans but may include alternative suggestions.
Bids must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. on September 08, 2025. Please click here additional details and how to submit your bid.
We're officially transitioning to Lakeshore Recycling and Disposal for our trash and recycling services! Please read the important details below to ensure a smooth transition:
1. Republic Services Can Pick-Up
- Please place your Republic Services trash and recycling cans out on the evening of Thursday, September 4.
- Republic will begin collecting their cans on Friday, September 5.
- If your cans are not picked up that day, leave them out—they will continue collecting into the following week until all are retrieved.
- If you have extra bins through Republic Services, you will need to contact Republic at 269-266-5545 or 269-266-5563 to cancel the additional bins if you do not wish to continue with Republic.
2. Lakeshore Trash Pickup Starts
- Put your new Lakeshore trash bin out on the evening of Thursday, September 4.
- Trash pickup will take place Friday, September 5 (due to the Labor Day holiday). Thursday will still be normal trash pickup day except for holidays.
3. Recycling Service Begins September 11
- Put out both your trash and recycling bins on the evening of Wednesday, September 10. They will both be collected on Thursday, September 11.
- Recycling will now be collected every other week (bi-weekly).

The Village of Berrien Springs has officially begun the N. Mechanic Street Infrastructure Improvement Project, which started on June 30, 2025, and is expected to continue through September 22, 2025.
Project Communication
- Door hangers have been distributed, and Village personnel have visited all impacted properties to ensure clear communication.
- Wightman Engineering also provided notices to residents regarding the start of early work, including gravel placement and trench preparation.
- If you received a flyer requesting your communication preference, please be sure to submit your information so we can keep you updated in the most convenient way for you.
Tentative Schedule for This Week
- Monday, September 1: Labor Day – no work
- Tuesday – Thursday, September 2 – 4: Road grading & restoration
- Friday, September 5: Rain/Contingency day

Pajay Excavating Inc., under contract with the Village of Berrien Springs, will be working on underground utility improvements along Mechanic Street, from Kephart Lane to Washington Street. Residents affected by the construction will receive door knockers with specific dates when work is scheduled in front of their homes.
⚠Temporary Access Disruptions
Driveway access may be limited during active construction. Residents are asked to park along Mechanic Street between Washington and Hamilton Streets during this time. Please coordinate directly with onsite representatives if needed. Expect minor traffic delays in the area.

On July 5, 2024, Berrien County filed its Notice of Intent to prepare the Materials Management Plan (MMP) and has become the County Approval Agency as required per Part 115, Solid Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act,1994 PA 451, as amended. The MMP will be a multi-county plan among Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties. Information about the MMP Planning Committee, along with committee meeting notices, will be posted at www.swmpc.org/materials_mngt.asp. MMP Committee Meetings are open to the public.
